Venice Chapel, by Carla Juaçaba

With Carla Juaçaba, 2018. Commissioned by Aesop & Contemporary Voices at The Met Symposium.

A conversation with Carla Juaçaba. For The Met symposium ‘In Our Time: A Year of Architecture in a Day.’ Aesop has collaborated with filmmaker Pedro Kok to explore three distinct projects by architects featured in the event: an art museum nestled in the Swiss Alps, a chapel commissioned by the Vatican for the Venice Biennale, and a reflection on an architecture of the future.

Polished steel cross of Carla Juaçaba’s Venice Chapel (2018) backlit among trees on San Giorgio Maggiore, lagoon glimpsed through trunks on leaf-strewn grass — a Vatican Biennale chapel reduced to a reflective cross and bench in the park
